Are You Ready to turn Snow into Money?

Here in Texas, we're hitting 90° or higher every day, which means IT'S FINALLY COOLING DOWN.

This also means that it's good idea to start preparing for colder weather. Some places are going to start seeing lots of snow in the coming months (yes, even in parts of Texas).

Fortunately, if you start gearing up now, you'll be more than ready to make some good money from plowing and removing snow.

Here are four steps to help you get ready for Snow Plowing Season!

1. Check your equipment 

V-plows and straight plows. Salt spreaders, tire-chains, and skid steers. D-grips and T-Grips and Gooseneck Snow Shovels. If you're into snow removal, you know what you need. Now, it's time to start checking up on all of your assets.

Some years are crazy, and the snow seems to come well before you expect it. Might as well ensure your success by getting your equipment into peak shape.

2. Prepare your teams

Take your rookies aside, and set them up with your experts. Set aside a day or so to teach your crews how to use the equipment, best practices, and how to be efficient when the snow storms start.

Refresher courses aren't a bad idea, either. You never know what your teams have forgotten since last year.

Remember, safety is very important during the snowy season. If your teams aren't trained, your chance for accidents increases exponentially, and nobody wants that.

3. Line up your services, and set your snow triggers

You need to make sure your services are up-to-date. Did you get new snow blowers that make your removal services 10 minutes faster? Have you changed your prices since last year?

How many inches of snow have to fall before you plow someone's property? Who are your priority clients? In a long lasting storm, when do you go back to your priority clients?

Get all of this set up ahead of time in Service Autopilot, and when the snow starts to pile up, you'll be ahead of the game.

4. Figure out your billing 

Snow plowing is a competitive business for a reason - it can happen so fast, and you can make tons of money. So, before it starts to get slushy out there, figure out how much you're going to charge your clients.

Are you going to charge per push, or per snow event? How much will you charge per inch? The sooner you answer questions like these, the sooner you can start giving out Estimates for your services.
